Description

The Chicago Crane Lamp

In the mid 1800’s, Chicago was king for furniture production. Chairs, beds, lamps, desks, and tables were manufactured and shipped out by the thousands, loaded upon train cars down the Bloomingdale and Milwaukee rail lines. Many noteworthy designers and brands got their start in the Windy City – bringing new levels of innovation and establishing a characteristic “Chicago” look.

The Chicago Crane illuminates the intersection of Chicago’s historic place in manufacturing history with modern function and design.

An 1890’s replica Edison Bulb hangs from a textile cord, which weaves its way through the frame of the lamp. The uprights are adjustably hinged together with a “Chicago Draw Bolt”(fittingly)  – a furniture connector developed during Chicago’s manufacturing heyday. Both the frame and the geometric base are made from solid North American Walnut with accents of stainless steel.
